Following the dissolution of Meow and a tumultuous stint in the Broadway musical ‘Rent,’ I wanted to do something I’d fantasized about for a long time : sing classic American ‘saloon’ songs, with a revisionist twist. Basically, I wanted to get back to what felt like my musical roots. Thus Driver Quartet was born. This is our first-ever recording. I think it holds up. In fact this version of Adam Bernstein’s ‘A Long Way Down’ is probably my favorite vocal performance of the song. Like DQ’s ‘Night Time’ album, the cover art for this was directly inspired by another album: this time, Josef Albers’ ‘Persuasive Percussion Vol. 3,’ which had been released on Command Records. Note, as well, that the Comma Records logo is strangely similar to the Command one. Adam Bernstein / Acoustic Bass. David Driver / Vocals. Peter Kiesewalter / Horns & Accordion. Fil Krohnengold / Piano. Clement Waldmann III / Drums & Percussion. Recorded and produced by Paul Vazquez.
