This album was inspired by a lot of the music I grew up listening to: Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, Doris Day, old movie soundtracks. Here’s the original back cover copy, written by my tender friend, Jason Tougaw: “Driver Quartet’s ‘Night Time’ seduces the listener into a nether-world where beauty and emotion, in their purest forms, reign. DQ re-envisions classics and delivers timeless originals with sublime craftsmanship, so that dark subjects–despair, dead love, the moon–are suffused with emotional subtleties, reminding us that a long night always ends with the dawn.” Incidentally, the cover art is a direct homage to the soundtrack album for Otto Preminger’s 1967 film “Hurry Sundown.” Which I never saw. Adam Bernstein / Acoustic Bass. David Driver / Vocals. Peter Kiesewalter / Horns & Accordion. Fil Krohnengold / Piano, Organ. Ross Murray / Percussion Suitcase. Produced by Driver Quartet and Ross Murray.
